Dean’s List

without comments

Merry Christmas to everyone. I had a very good Christmas myself. My parents got me a new LCD monitor, a wireless router, a PVR card for my PC, and some other things. I guess that means my computer is coming back with me to Virginia Tech.

It was good seeing my family, moreso my immediate family. It has been a while since I had seen my sister and her fiance. Also, I had not seen my mother and my father much since coming home for “Winter” break.

I do believe the crowning achievement to my less-than-stellar first semester had to be the fact that I made the Dean’s List with the minimum GPA of 3.4. Great, now I have to do better than that for the rest of my college career. It’s amazing to me how little the finals actually mattered to most grades. With one class, I either had to make a 99 or so to raise my grade; and a 50 something to lower it. It was really just maintenance from the first few tests.

Good luck next year. Try not to be “minimally exceptional.”

Christmas Spirit

without comments

The Calculus test yesterday was not fun at all, but I think I passed. Our teacher also gave us a problem to do that would give us up to 10 extra credit points, which defintely helps.

Anyways, I have two more exams: one today at 4:25 pm and one tomorrow morning bright and early at 7:45 am. Are they allowed to give us an exam before the earliest possible class? Well, they shouldn’t be.

I am getting into the Christmas Spirit through a mixture of Frank Sinatra’s Christmas classics and “A Santa Cause”, a punk Christmas album. It’s very good stuff.

After that exam tomorrow, Nick and I are packing up my car and leaving as soon as possible. I hope we miss Knoxville traffic at lunchtime because its on par with Washington traffic, just horrible.

Hope everyone is safe getting home.

Life As It Is

without comments

It has been a while since I have seen this page updated, so I thought I would give it a go. Today was my last English class while here at Virginia Tech (hopefully). As I was leaving, my English teacher paid me quite the compliment. She told me that if I ever get tired of my Computer Science major that I should think about becoming an English major. In all honestly, I never tried that hard in English. Sure, I had good grades, but I don’t think worthy of that compliment. Sure, I like to write ( kinda obvious aint it folks? ), but I never thought about doing it as a major.

Anyways, I finished my Computer Science program a few hours before it was due and pulled out an almost perfect grade. We had to create a text-based adventure game. However simple it was, I enjoyed the idea of writing my first game. I am pretty sure I want to write my own, but I am not sure where I fit in. Maybe writing the story, writing the code, or maybe even directing.

Tomorrow is Wednesday, and typically they are hell, but this is the last day of classes for this semester. That means that there is no Computer Science lab for the Professor to screw up and fix midway through class and no near-impossible-to-finish-in-the-time-designated labs. Anyways, the reason Wednesdays are hell is because of the schedule I have. I start bright and early with an 8 o’clock Engineering class then onto Computer Science and from there Calculus. Now at that point its about 11 o’clock. Then I would have lab, for two hours. After that a break for one hour. Then back to class for another hour. Yeah, that sounds like a pretty fun day, doesn’t it?

Anyways, gl hf.
