Uncertainty

Comments

“In these matters the only certainty is that nothing is certain.”
- Pliny the Elder

I guess I could sum it up by saying, what was said I needed to say. Had I not, I would probably be kicking myself harder than I am right now. I feel like crap, and will for a while.

Many thanks go out to my friend Norm, wise beyond his years as far as I’m concerned.

Island In The Sun

Comments

Everytime I listen to this song, I long to be relaxing in a chair on a desolate beach — quiet and somber — covered in wreckage from some unfortunate ships and the hurricane-wrecked island. It’s quiet, calm and sunny. It’s sunset, since I can’t fathom me waking up for sunrise even if it is just a vision. A macaw rests in a nearby palm tree and ponders the sunset with me. Sometimes I wish my dreams could come true, if for only a minute or two.

Island In The Sun by Weezer

When you’re on a holiday
You can’t find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I wanna feel it too

On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain

hip hip

When you’re on a golden sea
You don’t need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zone

On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain

We’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymore

On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine

Heh heh

We’ll never feel bad anymore

Payoff

Comments

The dealer’s hand smoothly laid down the next coated hard stock piece of paper from the dark cherry wood card shoe. The pitboss took a sip of scotch from the crystal highball. Normally, the casino would have scoffed at a pitboss drinking, but they knew very well that a bit of scotch would calm nerves. The card hit the soft green felt, weathered from a little under a month of play. The adrenaline discharged into my mouth, leaving a taste that lingered with an unsatisfying aftertaste. The card’s landing still reverberating against the already lain down side-facing king. One large spade winked up at me as the pitboss finished off the scotch. The dealer’s hand went for the navy backed card laying beneath a smirking queen. For all of her mirth, she was sitting on a nine of diamonds. The pitboss walked towards the phone before it began its metallic chorus, knowing it must sing its song. A crisp voice came over the phone wrought with a slight tinge of reluctance. Sitting there waiting, all I could feel was pure jubliation, awaiting a simple piece of heat-transfer paper with a short line of letters, numbers and one solitary dollar sign. The casino felt that with large sums of money, the only way the winner could feel secure was through a bank transfer. I’ll take a transfer anyday.

Marcus Vick’s Wild Ride

Comments

People that regularly read this site know that I go to Virginia Tech. People that keep up with Virginia Tech know that Marcus Vick, Michael Vick’s little brother, also goes (went) to Virgina Tech. Recently Marcus Vick was kicked off the team after intentionally stepping on an opposing player’s leg, I have to competely and whole heartedly agree with Vick being “dismissed”. All of his actions reflect upon Virginia Tech and therefore the majority of people think that we are the same as Vick.

Well a few days after being dismissed from the team, news comes about that he was arrested on firearms charges. I believe Virginia Tech’s administration did what they needed to do, maybe not as early as they should have, but better late then never.
