Flip-Floppery
Bikini adorned girls lay upon the sand,
As the water laps against the beach.
Umbrellas shade their clientele from heat,
As a warm breeze comes off of the water.
They rest upon the wooden slats of a rental chair,
With its white lacquer, pockmarked from the sand.
Cream colored from years of enjoying sand and sun,
An enviable life in most regards.
Palm trees line the nearby street,
Which happens to be covered with smiling passengers.
Pedestrians strolling about, enjoying the warmth,
While indulging in a cool snow cone.
Perched upon a tall chair of whicker,
Purveyors of drink sip from coconuts
A concoction of local flavor and attitude,
All the while covered by a paper umbrella.
Calm music of a local band fills the cantina,
It is accompanied by the lull of the surf.
The sun says its goodbyes to us at the bar,
Painting the walls orange, purple and red.
I wrote this for my sister as she absolutely loves the beach. This is one of my writings, which I openly acknowledge, that will be changed at some points, mainly to add more to it as I think of more.
Minimalism, Volume 2
Well, I talked about the virtues of Minimalism when applied to the computer a while ago, so I figured tackling some other parts of life might not be such a bad idea.
I tend to keep my Moleskine Ruled Pocket notebook on me at all times along with one of those fancy Fisher Bullet Space Pens. That combo is something like $30, so I realize a lot of people will scoff at that. Just keep a simple notebook and a small pen on you. For the longest time I wanted to find a Moleskine planner, and then I realized something. The weekly pocket one doesn’t have enough writing space and the daily pocket was too thick. My solution? Use one of their pocket notebooks — not too thick, not too thin — and just put the date at the top. As simple as this sounds, this greatly helps me. If you want to get more than 192 days out of yours, split the page in two and get double that, which is more than a year. I find that if an idea pops into my head or I have something due, I’ll just write it down.
Possessions are always the hardest part. All of the other crap, I’m not talking about your computer or your speakers. I am talking about books, gadgets, office supplies, video games, and anything else you can fathom. I keep every single card I recieve (yet, I don’t know why…), but they cause no clutter. I have all of them in a ziplock bag in the back of my filing tub. Always ask yourself: “why is this important or special and why do I need to keep it?” By asking those two questions you can get rid of a lot.
If you have any questions addressing minimalism, feel free to put them in the comments. I will be sure to reply to them. And by any question, I mean any question.
Changes
As I am sure you have noticed, there are a few changes going on. Most notably would be the new theme. I rather like the simplicity of it. Also, the photoblog has recieved a new theme as well, which is pretty similar in color to the Wordpress theme.
On the backend, random things have been updated here and there; mainly, I have moved myself to a new host. So, we will see how that goes. Thanks for sticking with me durring the transfer.
A Taste of Folly
I figured for Valentine’s Day that I should probably put up something from my notebook. Heres something I wrote a while ago.
A banter of folly dances between us,
Hiding my thoughts and fears,
Gradually becoming harder with each smile.
Trying to quell my nervous mind,
Yet, the fogginess of doubt fills my head.
The battle consumes my mind,
Withdraws me from the banter.
Rejection, failure, and uncertainty,
They mock me at this moment,
Knowing I can’t do what my heart wants.
Closer and closer with each minute lean.
Uncertainty grips me as I draw near,
Trying to push me back.
Stubborn as a mule, my heart refuses.
Senses monopolized and heart surrendered.
In an instant, nothing else matters.
Singing
Every now and again, something in life warrants singing. Someting sparks something in our mind, making us so damn happy. Right now, I have two things worth singing about. Jack Johnson’s new album is one of them, it is just an amazingly happy album and just incredibly upbeat. The other thing, well that’s for me to know and you to find out.
