Levels of Dedication
A constant idea on my mind is how should I present myself online. This website is under constant attack from my brain; I don’t really understand why it doesn’t change too much. I’ve looked around and I’ve determined that there are a few levels of dedication that go with the kind of online presence they contain.
1. Blog - Yeah, I guess this was coming. Blog’s tend to take the most amount of time if they are well maintained. This can range from a self-hosted Wordpress blog, a Blogger blog, or a Vox blog. I know I can spend vast amounts of time writing.
2. Tumblr - This is one I just found out about. It’s kinda like having a blog pointing to other people’s content, without the pointing. It brings together small posts, photos, links, conversations, quotes and videos. I think I might have to set one of these up for all the small things I want to post about.
3. MySpace/Facebook - This one might be scoffed at, but some people take these things very seriously. I’ve seen people that will post daily on the little blog like devices these sites have. I especially have to wonder about the MySpace folks, that site is hideous and I wouldn’t want to read anything on it for extended periods of time.
4. Twitter - This would take the least amount of time besides nothing or setting something up and never maintaining it. You can just drop on to the site and put up a quick blurb about what you are doing. You can even update it from your phone or IM. I think they limit you to only so many characters, but thats not a bad thing.
So, where do you stand in terms of how much time you feel like spending? I keep going back and forth with how much time I want to spend. Some days the blog is great as I can type out things like this. Other days I would rather not maintain a thing and would love to just use Tumblr. I maintain MySpace and Facebook pages, but really those are for my friends that don’t feel like trying something new, which is the vast majority of them. I’ve tried Twitter, but it just felt trite.
In the end, I’ll keep the blog because I can write as much as I’d like. I might start a Tumblr and give that a shot. MySpace and Facebook will still be there, but I don’t write anything on them. Twitter will probably be abandoned.
How To Fall On Your Ass And Pay For It
The guys and I decided to pack up and go hit the slopes for a day. Saturday was that day and we headed out to Wintergreen Resort located conspiculously in Wintergreen, VA. Needless to say, a trip that was simply displayed on Google Maps turned into a rediculous travel in which we stopped in little towns, drove around mountains and generall got lost. Yet, we eventually got there.
The place was packed! Holy crap, all snowboards for people over five feet were rented out. That sucks, oh well, get ski boots and move along. So I get up to the counter where I get my skis and I ask the guy if he’s got any boards behind the counter he’d be willing to give me. Lo and behold, there’s one left; yet, its got a messed up binding stuck in goofy. Now that I have my board I need to go exchange boots and all they have is one pair of 9’s. They fit…barely and I’m losing feeling.
Well, I get out there and get the lessons they include for free and after an hour or so I can go down the hill without falling into the double digits. After a while my feet begin to really kill, so I decide to try skiing. I figure that I did it as a kid, it shouldn’t be too hard right? Haha, wow I had no control whatsoever. So it looks like I’ll be sticking to snowboarding.
Well, overall it was a good time, probably too short. Next season we’ll have to do this a bit more often.
Westbound Train
It’s kinda rare that I find a band that makes me jump upon hearing one song. I’m so jaded by the constant battering unleashed upon me by media conglomerates and radio station glitterati. So I was kind of surprised when I saw Transitions on 3hive. I didn’t know quite what to expect from them, yet at the same time Hellcat records has a pretty good track record. So, I gave the one song they have up a listen. A few seconds through, I knew that this band had something that I am always looking for: the sound that makes you happy.
Their music isn’t the same crap you hear on the radio on your drive home. It’s the music that makes you smile and gets your toes tapping. So if you are having a bummer of a day, hop on over to the 3hive page and listen to the song they have up, you’ll smile.
Interviews
On campus today there was an Internship and Co-0p fair. So I decided that I should probably go and see what kind of internships are avaliable. So, I stumbled about for a bit, talking to some companies that I had noted to see and walked out of the place with two interviews! Whoa, thats pretty cool. Now, a few hours later my phone rings. Another company wants an interview! Wooohoooo! So, here’s hoping that these interviews turn into good experience with interviews and possibly an internship.
First Tests
Well, I had my first test last Wednesday in Business Law and that came out to be just fine. Then I have an exam this upcoming Tuesday, which I don’ think will be too hard. So, heres hoping the rest of the semseter will be just this easy.
