Time

without comments

I’ve put some serious time in since my last lengthy post and to be honest, it will be a little bit more time before the next. A few things are on the docket as it is: a paper due tomorrow and tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. So, my efforts are going toward those tasks.

In other time-related news, its been a year. It’s funny to hear that come out of my lips, but its been that long. Today marks one year since my girlfriend and I have been together. I can remember wanting a girlfriend, but believing that I would not be in a serious relationship until I graduated. Granted that was when I was in Computer Science with the entire CS faculty in opposition to any relationship other then that of the hands to the keyboard.

It’s remarkable how much one person can mean to you, how they can change a bad day into a good one and how easily they can make you smile. I hope everyone can experience this feeling in their lives because before this, I never realized how important love is to life.

You Realize You Are A Nerd When…

with one comment

Just a quick post from a realization I had when I was doing some work today.

You realize you are a nerd when you take a break from studying Engineering Cultures to program a bit for Advanced Business Computing and Applications.

On Any Given Sunday

without comments

So Friday was good and Saturday was as well, but Sunday took the cake. Most Sundays start out good, but kinda wane down as I start to think of Monday morning and the begrudgingly rudimentary routine. Not so much this Sunday.

My girlfriend and I decided to go to Gillie’s (a great vegetarian place here in Blacksburg, VA) for breakfast with her roommate and roommate’s boyfriend. After consuming way too much food, which included “Very Berry French Toast” and “Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Whole-Grain Pancakes” we had to go back to my place for my flour sifter because she was going to make Irish Soda Bread! And that was just the start.

She decided she wanted to make Corned Beef with potatoes, Irish Soda Bread and Apple Crisp for dinner. And let’s just say it was awesome. Now, I like corned beef alright, but this was just great; probably the best I’ve had.

So that was fine and dandy and we were sitting around watching TV when Payton started becoming uncomfortable and restless. At first we just kinda ignored it, but after a little bit we started to notice that she was ‘leaking’. And then without much warning, the first puppy started to come out.

Here is a list of all of the puppies in their birth order:

  1. Maddie - Female, Black with Brindle
  2. Tucker - Male, Bronze
  3. Annie - Female, Black with Brindle
  4. Ella - Female, Black with Brindle
  5. Bailey - Female, Light Brown
  6. Toby - Male, Black with Brindle
  7. Mikey - Male, Dark Brown
  8. Lucky - Male, Light Brown

I think Payton started giving birth around 10:30 and the last one was out around 1:10. So overall, she gave birth faster then the expected one every 30 minutes. Not that it was uniform. There was some serious gaps between a few of them and a few came out quickly. I believe Bailey was the one to come out within two minutes of the previous.

None of them had any birth defects and all of them are healthy and squeaking. Can’t wait to see them running around and playing.

This is Payton, my girlfriend’s foster dog. Yes, those eyes will melt damn near about anyone’s heart and guess what? She’s pregnant…very pregnant — she is due any hour now. Many thanks go out to the people who adopted her from the foster program. Because of them, her puppies won’t be euthanasized and they will be taken care of along with their momma.

Getting The Hang Of It

without comments

Well, over spring break my girlfriend and I decided to go hit some slopes for some last minute snowboarding and skiing. I have been once before, but I fell quite a bit and wasn’t looking too hot.

So we decided to go back to where I had gone for my first time on Monday. I managed to get a nice little package deal that saved me a bit of cash and get me into an “Advanced Beginner” Lesson. Well, after my lesson I was linking turns and going down the mountain without too much pain. Albeit, my most painful falls were on this day: one solid smack to the tail bone and some grinding to my left knee.

We then went up to my parent’s house and lo and behold the day we planned to go it was slated to snow. So we woke up to a fresh coating of snow on the ground. As we headed north to Blue Knob we noticed that the route we were going to take was shut down, so we turned around and went to Roundtop. It was smaller, but since it was fresh powder and there were very few people it was a great day. This was probably my favorite day snowboarding so far. I managed to make it down the mountain a few times without falling and even then the powder softened the fall.

So I guess what that all means is that I’m sticking with this. Next season I’ll probably pick up a board package and hit the slopes a bit more often and hopefully with some friends.
