We Will Prevail
A lot of people have called me, sent me e-mails, left comments on my blog and otherwise made sure that I was still living and breathing. To all of those people, thank you. It’s good to know that there are people out there that actually think about you.
We began our first day of school here at Virginia Tech very tentatively. Some people were still afraid, some people needed a shoulder to cry on. Yet we still went about campus, weaving between the buildings and uneasily looking at Norris every time we stepped foot near it. I wish I could say class went on as normal, that we went to class just like we would every other Monday morning. However, class was different and most certainly not nearly as well attended.
Professors tired of the media told us to keep an eye out for potential reporters and that they no longer had any respect for the media. I have to overwhelmingly agree; CNN is the worst of the lot, with their sensationalism and over zealous reporting they have made coping with this much harder on people that don’t need it to be any harder.
This is how we will prevail, we will sit with our friends and we will laugh, we will tell stories, we will smile and we will live.
Lunch was the most interesting part of the day. I strolled into Owens like I normally do every Monday and went over to the normal spot and immediately noticed that even with the poor attendance in class, there was an abundance of people – and more importantly good spirits – here. This is how we will prevail, we will sit with our friends and we will laugh, we will tell stories, we will smile and we will live. We will move forward and we will remember these people who died needlessly – and for some, selflessly.
Let this tragedy be a reminder to us all, life is too short to waste time. Enjoy life as best you can, you are only here once and even then we don’t know for how long.
