Weeding Out The Feeds

without comments

There are a few people who know me well and know that I used to read a lot of feeds. I was subscribed to over 100 feeds – not terribly uncommon. But I found myself staring at a few feeds and questioning their worth. Wondering if the insights they provide actually helped me at all. So, I began to keep a mental list (granted I would somehow make this more concrete) of the feeds that I just skipped over. It mostly turned out to be Lifehacker and a few others.

So I purged my list of feeds that generate lots of posts with little value and replaced them with unique insights by authors I want to hear from; like Dan Cederholm and Jeff Croft. After doing that, I am reading no fewer feeds (about 96 now); however, I read less news per day (around 60 articles) and half of them are from photoblogs.

I recommend that if you are reading 100+ articles a day, take a look at what you are just skimming over. You may not even need that feed.

Hiccups

without comments

Not sure if anyone cares or noticed, but the blog may have been unavailable for a little bit. I was swapping hosts and so far they seem pretty good. Had a slight issue getting it set up, but that was mainly my inability to read the whole e-mail they sent me.

Anyways, I’ll give the company a mini-review in a few days.

What’s Going On

without comments

Haven’t heard from me in a while, huh? Well, I’ve been a bit occupied helping my girlfriend move in. Yes, after five or so days I think I can say she’s completely moved. Granted, she’s not terribly well organized, but that’s what the semester is for, not classes.

I’ve also been attempting to become employed and it looks like I’m getting a few steps closer with a particular company. I’m pretty excited, as anyone close enough to me during this summer can tell you.

The grind of classes will start soon enough, and I hope that the effects of the shooting won’t be felt too much. I would prefer that people respect what happened, but go back to the way things were before it all happened.

Oh, and thank goodness for air conditioning. Temperatures in Blacksburg have been ridiculous over the past few days. Today it was 100° at some point. Frankly, it can stop that kind of crap any time now.
