A Change in Where I Write
I know I said this a while ago, but it never really played out as well as I had hoped. So here’s my second attempt at splitting up all (the very little that there is) of my writing.
All technology and web design posts you can find right here at wesbaker.com. I hope to feature posts about things I’ve learned while working and using the technology in my life.
Everything else: books, travel, music, photography, general writing and anything personal (eg. family and friends) will be on tumblr.wesbaker.com.
Last, but definitely not least, anything involving myself and my fiancée will be on shannonandwes.com.
Tumbling
Started up a Tumblr tumblelog and I fear that I may stray away from this site because of the ease of use that Tumblr has. It’s pretty fantastic. Anyways, you can get to it at tumblr.wesbaker.com. Anyways, most of the small content will be on that site and anything lengthy will be here as usual.
Hiccups
Not sure if anyone cares or noticed, but the blog may have been unavailable for a little bit. I was swapping hosts and so far they seem pretty good. Had a slight issue getting it set up, but that was mainly my inability to read the whole e-mail they sent me.
Anyways, I’ll give the company a mini-review in a few days.
Levels of Dedication
A constant idea on my mind is how should I present myself online. This website is under constant attack from my brain; I don’t really understand why it doesn’t change too much. I’ve looked around and I’ve determined that there are a few levels of dedication that go with the kind of online presence they contain.
1. Blog - Yeah, I guess this was coming. Blog’s tend to take the most amount of time if they are well maintained. This can range from a self-hosted Wordpress blog, a Blogger blog, or a Vox blog. I know I can spend vast amounts of time writing.
2. Tumblr - This is one I just found out about. It’s kinda like having a blog pointing to other people’s content, without the pointing. It brings together small posts, photos, links, conversations, quotes and videos. I think I might have to set one of these up for all the small things I want to post about.
3. MySpace/Facebook - This one might be scoffed at, but some people take these things very seriously. I’ve seen people that will post daily on the little blog like devices these sites have. I especially have to wonder about the MySpace folks, that site is hideous and I wouldn’t want to read anything on it for extended periods of time.
4. Twitter - This would take the least amount of time besides nothing or setting something up and never maintaining it. You can just drop on to the site and put up a quick blurb about what you are doing. You can even update it from your phone or IM. I think they limit you to only so many characters, but thats not a bad thing.
So, where do you stand in terms of how much time you feel like spending? I keep going back and forth with how much time I want to spend. Some days the blog is great as I can type out things like this. Other days I would rather not maintain a thing and would love to just use Tumblr. I maintain MySpace and Facebook pages, but really those are for my friends that don’t feel like trying something new, which is the vast majority of them. I’ve tried Twitter, but it just felt trite.
In the end, I’ll keep the blog because I can write as much as I’d like. I might start a Tumblr and give that a shot. MySpace and Facebook will still be there, but I don’t write anything on them. Twitter will probably be abandoned.
Whoa! Where’d Everything Go?
Hmm, seems a bit quieter around here then it used to…thats because I’m transitioning all of my more technical content and shifting it over to my new blog SwiftCobalt. I’d really like it if you could go take a gander over there as thats where my better writing will probably be.
I also plan to blog a bit more on both! Yes, two times as much writing in two times as many places! Holy smokes, this is free? Sure is.
Plus, if you are interested, I could use some spiffy writers. You know the ones who like to write and do it kinda good. If you are the kind of dry text book writer, then I recommend you apply somewhere else, but if you are the kind of person who wants to talk to who you are writing to, then go ahead and comment on this and we can work something out.
